The pallet/bulk carrier ARTIC FJORD will change the mode of transport of fish feed. The vessel was delivered in June from Havyard Eid AS, Løkjaneset to the owning company Artic Shipping AS, Førde. Multi Maritime AS was responsible for the design of the vessel and co-ooperated closely with the Charterer, EWOS, as well as Cirrus AS in the development of the bulk discharging system. The price for the vessel including the special equipment is about NOK 75 million.

The unloading system is said to be the first of its kind and features a system which gives dustfree handling during discharging, and by the help of the Alstom DP system the vessel is able to operate without mooring arrangements. The careful handling of the cargo is a key factor of this new way of feed transport.

ARTIC FJORD is arranged with six tanks/holds and has a capacity of about 1,400 m3 for bulk cargo. 34 containers of 20' can also be accommodated onboard.

On delivery the vessel entered a long term charter to EWOS, which is an international group producing fish feed for the salmon industry. The group has a global market share of about 35% and produced 661,000 tons of feed last year.

Two Caterpillar 3508B DITA diesel engines of 1,000 bhp each, constitute the vessel's main propulsion machinery. The engines drive two Schottel STP 550 propellers, and the vessel is equipped with two VME-1200-S-001 bow thrusters each of 250 kW. The auxiliary machinery consists of two Caterpillar 3412C DITA diesels and a VAR-G shaft generator.

The electronic bridge equipped installed by Elmarin AS comprises Furuno FR-2117 and FR-2137S radars, Furuno FE-700 echo sounder, Bergen Nautik compass, Furuno DS-80 log, Simrad GC80 gyro compass, Simrad AP9 auto pilot, Furuno GP-90 GPS, Telchart chart plotter, Furuno A2 GMDSS radio station, Furuno FA-100 AIS, three portable Tron VHFs, Tron 40S and 40SX emergency transmitters and two Tron SART radar transponders.
